Remote-controlling polymerization

Using a photoswitchable Bronsted acid catalyst we were able to control the living ring opening polymerization of lactide in situ and modulate the incorporation of other monomers into the copolymer chain by light. The exciting results of this study promise applications in 3D printing among others and have just been published in the July issue of Nature Catalysis including the cover picture (link).
